Finjan Café
A neighbourhood café in Tripoli shaped around the ritual it serves. Arched niches and geometric pattern carry an architectural inheritance from the region without becoming costume; the rest of the space is quietly contemporary. The café reads less as a designed object than as a familiar place that happens to be carefully detailed.
The café is small, and the design treats that as an asset. The arched niches do two jobs: they break one small space into several intimate ones, and they give the pattern a place to live, so that ornament belongs to the architecture rather than sitting on it. A café is used daily by the same people; it was detailed to be familiar on the first visit and still interesting on the hundredth.
DIUM / Finjan CaféFAMILIAR ON THE FIRST VISIT, STILL INTERESTING ON THE HUNDREDTH.
