Alazoum Farm House
The interiors of a farm house in Misrata, designed with Form & Function of Bahrain: a hall for the family’s gatherings with a sunken majlis at its centre, a long dining space, a working kitchen, and a sitting room with a fire — all held within the stone walls and arches of the house itself.
The house keeps its stone. The rubble walls and arches are left as the architecture made them, and everything the studio adds is set against them in a lighter key, so that the old weight and the new comfort are each more legible for the other. The majlis is sunk a step below the hall — all the enclosure a space of this scale needs.
